Online :)
I opened Sunshine Studio’s during lockdown. It’s wonderful! I get to connect with people from all over the world and no one has to find a parking space in front of a yoga studio 😉
Life led me to it 😁
I’ve always loved movement. From when I was little, I loved athletics, dancing, netball, gymnastics and then, in, almost ten years ago, I came across the practice of yoga.
I’ve never been able to see myself as a 9-5’er, though I did it work in HR for a few years while completing my postgraduate, I always knew I wanted to do something that’s a bit different. Something creative and active, and that brings me, and others some form of sunshine. While figuring out ‘how-to-adult’, finishing my post-grad in teaching, and working in a corporate environment in the HR Office, I started doing yoga online. Because, jeez, I needed it 😅
While still completing my degree, I took the leap and left my 9-5. I went to Vietnam to teach English for 4 months. Then, I decided to go back to South Africa and worked as a Therapist for children on the Autism spectrum. I loved this! It was such a challenging job, but I loved the work I was doing. I started doing yoga with the children, and then I was on to something. So, I completed my Yoga Teacher Training.
Finally having received my postgraduate degree, I worked as Teacher at a school for children with special needs (Autism Spectrum, Down’s Syndrome, Severely Intellectually Disabled).
In 2019, my husband got offered a job in the Netherlands, and here we are :)
I’m teaching yoga online to people all over the world.
Hopefully I can start teaching yoga to Special Needs children in the Netherlands too.
It’s my passion! I love my job!
Everyday a bit different, but also some structure 😁
Usually: Mindful morning with coffee, dancing/yoga/moving and breathing. Then, a quick tidy up (my kitchen is always messy), shower and breakfast. Next, off to the socials and getting some work done. Yoga and research during the day followed by lunch.
I try and have a meditation session or a mindful tea-break during the afternoon. The rest of the day changes - doing admin, working around the house, or reading.
And then, I prep for dinner before any yoga classes in the late-afternoon or evening. A daily walk with my husband. And finally it’s dinner and chill time 💃
It’s a work in progress (always) 😁 We recently moved into our house, and still busy making our home. I have a room upstairs where it’s nice and sunny and I enjoy meditation and movement; but, it’s too small for when I teach online - so I have a makeshift studio downstairs as well. Yoga EVERYWHERE 😂
Don’t compare your practice to anyone else’s!
Never be too serious.
Practice often - it doesn’t have to be an hour every time.
Make time for it (yoga and meditation) - you'll never regret it.
Breathing.
Kidding...kind of...wellness is a big word, and these aren’t necessarily products...but for me, it would be:
Creating my own path and having the courage to do my own thing.
Baking Soda & vinegar
Not even kidding. I’m trying my best to live as plastic-free and low-toxic as possible and I never knew the wonders of this humble product.
Not being able to be in the same space as the students with no physical adjustments. It’s a bit more challenging to gage the energy of students and to see if everyone could follow the cue. Also, not being able to create and offer a safe physical space to come to for practice (they have to find some zen somewhere in their own homes, which can be tricky).
The Bootcamp and Greenhouse Flow playlists on Spotify are filled with music I flow to. Sometimes no music is nice too 😌
