I enrolled into the April 2021 UX/UI Design bootcamp because I wanted to gain hands-on experience in the industry. With my background in visual communications I wanted to take my knowledge to the next level and create meaningful products. Theory and design is the best of both worlds.
Currently I am based in Toronto Canada; born and raised. I would love to move to a different country one day, but currently I am in love with Toronto. In this city, we consider Drake the 8th wonder of the world.
Here's a photo of The CN Tower –– it's the epitome of the downtown core:
I decided to pursue UX/UI design because during my undergrad I studied Communications with a specific look at Visual Communications. I have always been interested in pursuing a more hands-on design based career so I thought that UX/UI Design would be the perfect fit.
The most exciting part of UX/UI Design are Wireframes; I love seeing research come together visually. They are also really fun to create as there is much less pressure creating them than a final prototype.
I always start my day with walking my dog along the waterfront with a coffee in hand. Once I am home, I get some work done and then head over to the park beside my condo and do a workout outside –– this is, of course, weather permitting as winters in Canada are brutal (yes, the stereotypes are true the north truly does turn into a frozen tundra). On the weekends, I enjoy spending time up at my cottage in Muskoka Ontario with family friends.
Here is my desk setup, where all of the magic happens 😀. I hung a few of my favourite vinyls on the wall because as I said; big music nerd here.
It's very unorganized with the disgusting amount of emails I have unopened...guess I better get on unsubscribing
I decided to take a Memorisely Bootcamp because I love its fast paced nature of the class. I was able to learn useful skills that allow me to jump start into a new career. I wanted to remove myself from the theory based Communications Studies I was used to, and gain a hands-on experience.
My experience as a student at Memorisely was probably the best thing I have ever done. The community is beyond welcoming and everyone is readily available to help you every step of the way. Even though all the classes were remote, it really didn't feel like it was.
My favourite thing about the Bootcamp was the community of Memorisely. I always looked forward to going to class and talking to people from around the world. My favourite class we had was the wireframing class, as well as the interview/ portfolio workshop.
As a student, I sometimes struggle with completing one task fully then moving on to the next. I think that this is the case because I am a person who loves to multitask (not always the best idea). Whenever I get stuck on one task, I move to another to allow myself to not focus on what is slowing my brain down and revisit this problem after I have taken a step back. Some might call it my fatal flaw.
