Where are you from and/or where are you based as a Memorisely student?

Sydney, Australia. 👇

What inspired you to pursue UX/UI Design and become a designer?

I've recently been working on projects with Experience Designers and have loved getting more and more involved with their work. Also, I have always appreciated using a good app or navigating through a website that is seamless and easy to use.

Which Bootcamp did you choose to enroll in, and why?

I enrolled in the UX/UI Bootcamp to learn techniques and processes that high performing Experience Designers use to create awesome products.

What's it like to be a student in Memorisely's virtual classroom?

It’s great! My calendar looks hectic, balancing full-time work as well as classes in the evenings; but, I’m always engaged and excited for class so it is never a strain — I’d do it again!

What has been your favorite part of Bootcamp so far? What's one learning that has surprised you in Bootcamp?

I’ve loved learning how to create components and styles in Figma. Zander and the team have great teaching techniques to make sure everyone is on track and no one gets left behind. Learning simple hints and being able to ask questions along the way is so helpful when it comes to Figma.

I’m looking forward to starting the second half of the UX/UI Bootcamp next week!

What is the biggest challenge you face learning UX/UI Design?

The biggest challenge is not coming from a design background. I’ve never been very artistic or super creative, as I’ve always enjoyed the maths, finance and management subjects more.

I’ve learnt that one of the most important aspects of UX design is to focus on the users challenges and the experiences you want to provide them. My creative designs will come with time and practice.

What does a typical day look like for you as a student?

I have enjoyed working from home the last few months.

My morning starts with listening to ‘The Daily Squiz Podcast’, followed by a walk or run with a friend along the beach / in the bush. On Friday's, I go for a swim and coffee with my Dad and brothers (even in winter).👇

Work starts at about 8:30am, and we have meetings throughout the day with moments in between to get the work done. Our team is building a new Digital Application form and we are currently testing all the different scenarios before 'Go Live'.

From about 6pm, its dinner and chill before the Memorisely class starts at 7pm.

I then wind down and am asleep by 10pm.

What is your current workspace setup?

No high tech set up for me — a simple sit down desk with an external monitor. 👇

What are your go-to or "must have" apps?

  • Google Calendar
  • Banking apps
  • Find My Friends (sounds creepy but it’s very convenient)
  • Spotify / Podcasts
  • Slack & Notion (since starting Memorisely)

What (digital or physical) product recently blew your socks off?

Hello Fresh — it is a meal kit delivery service that ships weekly boxes of fresh ingredients along with recipes to help make meal-time easier. It's simple, intuitive, offers appropriate discounts when users come and go from the site/app, and has a great tracking system. It’s so easy that if this course doesn’t work out, I’d consider becoming a chef!

What tunes do you listen to while designing?

I go wherever my YouTube / Spotify algorithm takes me. I have yet to create my ultimate playlist.

Share three pieces of advice for fellow and/or future students?

  1. Be organized.
  2. Reach out to your network.
  3. Progress, not perfection.

Thanks for reading my story!
