Where are you from, and/or are you based as a Memorisely student?

I grew up in the Philippines, moved to Singapore to work, and now live permanently in Auckland, New Zealand.

What inspired you to pursue UX/UI and become a designer?

Out of curiosity and wanting to understand how digital is connected in multiple disciplines, I pivoted from graphic design, web design, front-end development, technical project management, and digital marketing to UX/UI design. Having an experience in multiple disciplines allowed me to collaborate across teams easily.

After my long career adventure, I focused on UX/UI design because I could visually see my work's impact on the users and business.

Which Bootcamp did you choose to enrol in, and why?

I enrolled in the Design System Bootcamp because it covers various topics like design tokens, best practices and governance. The most important thing is to be able to ask questions during the live session with your instructor.

Jake is such a nice instructor! He answered my questions that have haunted me for months, where you can't easily find the detailed answer on Google. Be sure to look for his class schedules, he never gets upset with our questions during the sessions! Cheers mate!

What's it like to be a student in Memorisely's virtual classroom?

It is exciting to learn new skills and meet fellow Memorisely students.

What has been your favourite part of Bootcamp so far? What's one learning that has surprised you in Bootcamp?

The instructor answered my questions, the resource materials I needed to read, and the tasks I needed to do before the session.

What is the biggest challenge you face learning UX/UI Design?

Applying what you learned from your studies in the real world. In reality, you do it in bit pieces. You need to be able to shift priorities, rescope the work, and easily adapt to any given situation.

What does a typical day look like for you?

If I work from home, the temperature is not too cold, and it is not raining; I usually go jogging in the early morning. On the flip side, I do my regular morning routine then I make sure to grab a cup of coffee during my work time.

After working hours, I usually spend time with my family, like eating dinner together, helping my daughter with assignments, playing with them, and then putting them to bed. After that, I typically spend my time watching tv series and movies, upskilling, or freelancing.

What is your current workspace setup?

What are your go-to or "must have" apps?

Typically, my Chrome browser, Calendar, Figma, and Notion!

What (digital or physical) product recently blew your socks off?

Notion! The app can do many things and has become an integral part of my daily personal and work life.

Share three pieces of advice for fellow designers?

  1. Be curious to try new things out and be open-minded,
  2. Reinforce your current skills and knowledge. Never stop learning new things.
  3. Be kind and stay humble, especially in your workplace. Your behaviour can greatly impact someone's life in a positive or negative way.

Thanks for reading my story!
